Stages of a session

The first stage: Initial consultation

This will be the initial consultation/case history. The therapist will answer the clients questions
about hypnotherapy and they will also find out why they have come for therapy.
There probably won't be any therapy done at this stage.

2nd Stage: Induction

This involves the client going into a light trance. This could be achieved by the therapist simply
asking them to close their eyes or depending on the clients problem the therapist could use an arm
levitation induction.

3rd Stage: Deepening

Depending on what the therapist decides and what the clients problem is suggestions will be given
to enable the client to go deep enough in into trance to help with the problem.

4th Stage: Therapy

At this stage suggestions will be given or techniques will be used to help achieve their goals for
therapy.

Stage 5: Awakening/Terminating Trance

The client will be reorientated to the room and the therapist will remove all suggestions that are no
longer needed.

Stage 6: Homework

The therapist may give the client a CD to reinforce the session or teach them self hypnosis to use on
themselves between sessions.
